Wireless Networks Should Be Considered The Primary Network

As our communities become more and more mobile, the wireless network (both WiFi and Cellular) needs to be considered as the primary production network, and resources needed to be available and functional on those networks. This includes ending the assumption that if people are physically on-campus they are on "our" network.

  1. I would say that wireless networks should be given equal weight as the wired networks. I don't need my desktop computer to be on wireless, but I should be able to access the same things and have the same level of connectivity from my laptop and other mobile devices over wireless as I do on my wired desktop.

  2. With our strategic plan this year, we announced that our strategy is to make our wireless network a primary business network. This is a strategy shift from our prior view that wireless networks are a network of convenience. We believe that individuals personally choose and carry their network of convenience with their smart phone. We need to make our campus read for learners who are constantly mobile (think mobile first).
