In a MOOC world teachers will become Master Yodas of Quality

The role of the teacher is already changing. From expert to coach and trainer.

With MOOCs this development has to evolve more rapidly. Coaches and Trainers will have to become Master Yoda's sort of speak. They learn to learn, but also are in control of checking the quality. The quality of the content that is provided by the world and the quality of those who finish the course.

Big Universities and organisations like Educause should focus on training these Master Yoda's. The builders of MOOC tools like Coursera, Udacity, Edx, etc. should provide the Masters with the senses (tools/insights) to check on Quality.

The description, to me, seems internally inconsistent. If we relegate faculty to just coach and trainer, we are implicitly saying that we are not concerned about their expert opinion on the quality of the content in their field. But your "Yoda" role explicitly assigns to faculty the role of gatekeeper of quality.

I think educating people in academic fields is well beyond the scope of EDUCUASE, and I question why you specifically say big universities should train content experts. Most faculty come from ranks outside the big, elite schools, and the diversity of their training, experiences, and perspectives is what makes higher education strong. I am terrified by the idea that only a handful of institutions would provide all faculty. That path leads to a dangerous homogeneity that must be avoided.
